Loud1Design

Loud1Design Ltd. (LID) is a small product design engineering consultancy based in Glasgow, Scotland offering new product development support directly to clients or integrating into other larger development teams looking for our focused capabilities in form and geometry.
L1D has been operating for 9 years as a design consultancy across a wide range of sectors ranging from medical products through toys to renewable energy and architectural technology. L1D has served many clients, large andsmall, from international companies such as Lego and Arup, to more local, small, innovative companies such as
PAL Technologies, Flex Medical and Fearsome.
A key driver in L1D’s work is the generation of parametric models that allow a solution space to be explored, optimised or customised to individuals. These models seek to capture the design intent fully, allowing explorations that always remain valid within the design constraints. This funding bid therefore naturally aligns with the development of L1D’s practice and capabilities that we are continually developing.
L1D has experience in developing form generation algorithms that take key design parameters as inputs and deliver valid design solutions within the constraints imposed by project stakeholders. L1D is currently developing a patent in the field of additive manufacture therefore has an intimate knowledge of the current landscape which will be brought to bear in this project.
Role in the project
- L1D will provide design engineering support to the project, in particular, leading the development of algorithmic methodology for the generation of the dynamic auxetic lattices that will form the custom user interfaces to the therapeutic VR experiences that PRIME-VR2 will deliver.
- L1D will also be involved in the development of the pipeline or workflow for these generated elements, being able to communicate appropriate levels of information to other team members and their analysis software or solid modelling software such as Solidworks for planning of the component assemblies.
- L1D’s experience in the design and delivery of products will also be engaged in DFMA studies of the lattice elements, the housings more generally and their integration with the discrete internal mechatronic components of the controllers.
